Heartfelt appreciation and thank you for your support – ICC Canada Day 2013 Picnic

Selamat Pagi

First of all Indonesian Canadian Congress would like to express its deepest condolences and sympathy to all those affected by the 6.2 magnitude earth quake happened on 2 July, 2013 in Aceh Indonesia.  We keep them in our heart and prayer for safety and fast recovery.

On behalf of ICC board and executives I would like to offer my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude  for all your supports direct or indirectly in successful completion of ICC Canada Day Picnic 1 July 2013.

We have shown the unity of Indonesian community during the event and has make the picnic cheerful and more colourful with truly felt Indonesian presence throughout the event. It is a truly team work from the volunteer in any part of preparation, during the event and after the picnic, food donation,  performer, community at large, Indonesian Embassy staff,  Dharma Wanita, ICC board and executives and all who came to bring smile, laughter and joy to the event. Warmest thank you to all of you.

Starting from the performance of Angklung group, it was unique and probably it was the first Angklung performance to sing “Oh Canada” national anthem in front of several dignitaries (2 MPs, MPP/Minister of Labour Ontario, Ottawa City Councillor) who present during the picnic.   I would like to thank you first to ibu Nina Bancroft for her drive and effort to bring Angklung to ICC community.   And then with tireless effort of ibu Edith as the lead Conductor to  prepare and coach the group into shape.  And finally with the learning perseverance from ananda Icha, ibu Diana, ibu Nina, ibu Meta,  ibu Sinda, ibu Retty,  ibu Diah, ibu Minda, ibu Rasmi, ibu Ani, ibu Ria, pak Deddy Hendarna, Deddy Herdijanto, plus ibu Endah, ibu Iis, who filled in during the practice to make up the group persistence to the end. Very grateful for the perseverance  and success on the first performance.

Next, Indonesian food never fails to bring a praise and smile to the audience. The remarkable food donation come in all shape and taste. From Indonesian style jajanan pasar to cake to a little heavier food are served from the kitchen of  ibu Diana,  ibu Susi, ibu Nur, ibu Murni, ibu Iis, ibu Nina, ibu Edith, ibu Meta, ibu Minda, ibu Endah, ibu Sinda, ibu Retty,  ibu Eny,  ibu Hikmat, ibu Eny, ibu Flora, ibu Tina, ibu Widya, ibu Titin, ibu Cecilia, ibu Shelly, and much more  (I am sorry if I miss any).  I thank you and as always,  it’s great to know that we can count on you to go the extra mile.  Also thank you to ibu Murni and pak Yvon for  manning the snow cone ice stand then ibu Iis, ibu Endah and also other for manning the food stand  and help to serve the food, which is not as easy as it looks.

Again this event will not be a success without a slew of generosity from volunteer for the time and material contributing to team effort.  I wanted to take a moment to say how much I appreciated support from pak Deddy/ibu Retty for the place to practice and meet, pak Budi, pak Amin, pak Yvon, ibu Soesi, pak Dino and other, Thank you.

I quote the comment from one of Board Director from other participant organization  ” My family and I were really impressed by the team work of your Community. Mashallah the children did a wonderful job and the food was delicious” and then continue “…seen the Indonesian community always well organized. I just wanted to express my appreciation. “

Lastly nothing is perfect in this world, I would like to apologize for any shortcoming, inconvenience and disappointment  whether I know or I don’t know it. I sincerely hope we can embrace “Bhineka Tunggal Ika”  (Unity in Diversity) spirit especially among us and other communities of different origin and background.

 Happy CANADA DAY 2013.

Till we wet again on the future event, keep the spirit high and together we can.

Looking and Shaping for ICC Angklung Music Group

Dear Indonesian Community,

We are  happy to announce that one of the members of our community has secured the purchase of one set of Angklung bamboo musical instruments from Indonesia and cleared it with Canada Customs. The ICC Board and Executive really appreciate all her efforts as well as her financial generosity in obtaining them.

We sincerely hope that these musical instruments can have a positive impact and improve togetherness within our community while, at the same time, introduce the cultural richness of Indonesia and make other communities in Ottawa and the surrounding area aware of it.

The ICC culture and education team is still at the preparation stage for Angklung practice.  Ibu Nina and Ibu Edith have volunteered to coach the group. We also plan to have a practice every Saturday. More detailed information, including the venue, is still being developed and will be announced when they have been confirmed. Meanwhile we are looking for 10 or more children/young people to start building the Anklung music group.

We are asking all parents to encourage their children to join the ICC Angklung group to master these instruments. Please send your inquiry and mention your child’s interest by email to contact@indonesiacanada.org.

I am sure we have a lot of potential capability “from within” our community and I hope that everyone join us  to support the ICC’s vision to shape a better world for the generations to come.

Thank you for your attention and help in this initiative.
